About California’s Double Drive Time Law (10+ miles)
Under California law, licensed moving companies are required to charge Double Drive Time between the pick-up and drop-off addresses if the distance exceeds 10 miles. This ensures fair compensation for time spent in transit between locations. How it works:
If your origin and destination are more than 10 miles apart, STRYGO will apply Double Drive Time as follows:
• If it takes 25 minutes to drive from point A to point B,
your final bill will include 50 minutes of drive time. This does not double your entire move — only the time spent traveling between the two addresses. This policy is regulated by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) and is standard across the moving industry for longer-distance local moves.
Every move is unique — and so is the number of movers it requires.
Here’s a general guide based on our experience with thousands of California moves:
• These are typical crew sizes based on average move size and item volume
• For large or high-floor buildings, elevators, long walkways, or stair-only access, we may recommend additional movers
• Booking the right number of movers saves time and reduces total hours needed
